Art Still Has Truth, Take Refuge There

Last night we went down to the St. Louis Art Museum to watch a free outdoor jazz concert. Lamar Harris, world renowned (and St. Louis native) jazz trombonist was performing.

The night couldn't have been better. Very little humidity, cool, breezy. Cora loved every minute of it too. She danced, smiled, clapped, and twirled as Lamar and his band, Groove Therapy, jammed the night away.

Have a swell & art-filled weekend!

Opossum Attack!!!

I wish I was a dream-oligist.

What's in a dream?

What's it mean?

Any significance?Last night I struggled for what seemed like an hour or more as I tried to sleep. Somehow an opossum had bit me and latched onto my hand, and I could not figure out how to get it off! I tried to pry it off with sticks, tools, broom handles, everything; but no avail.

Finally it was gone (although I don't remember how I got rid of it...). And now I was occupied with the task of finding a 24 hr emergency clinic to get a rabies shot.

WHAT THE HECK KIND OF DREAM IS THAT?!?!

Ideas???

Luckily, it was only a dream. But I'll be watching my back for those pesky opossums...

O-mazing Dinner Creation!

Tonight I decided I'd surprise Kate with another dinner creation. I wanted something meaty, but I wanted to make it unique - not just steak, chicken, or burgers.

I decided I was going to try some sort of stuffed steak dish. Cora and I took off to the grocery store and the creation took shape...

#1, BIG THICK MEAT.

#2, Cut the meat perfect for stuffing.
#3, Stuff with the fixin's (sausage & rosemary - i decided the sausage would add a great savory flavor and the rosemary would add some bite )

#4, Insert skewers to hold the creation together

#5, We're off to the grill...
#6, Plate it and serve. MMMMMM!
This is one to keep around!

Grand Rapids Day 02

Hello all...

Still in GR for another 24 hrs. Today has been amazing meeting great folks that are doing really amazing/creative work. Rob Bell opened up wonderfully and later introduced Peter Rollins. A mick from Ireland that brought the truth! This dude was nuts...but he was on fire and has a brilliant mind!

Here's a few quotes at getting at "the thing behind the thing":

"you don't see the light, the light lets you see."

"don't convince the mind, rupture the heart."

"2 approaches...#1: give someone water and cure thirst...#2: give someone salt and create thirst!"

The conference is liberating. Its nice to be surrounded in a community of focused, passionate leaders, that are eager to continue the conversation...(that would be a great blog title!)

Anyway, more posts tomorrow (or the next day - we have a grueling drive ahead of us tomorrow).

Peace,
Ross

Box o' Water...and more!

Kate and I arrived safely in Grand Rapids this evening and enjoyed the opening segment by Rob Bell at his conference, Poets, Prophets, & Pastors. I decided I was the poet and Kate is the prophet. Anyway, we bought this nifty box-o-water at the conference to wet our parched whistles. Kinda cool...

All in all, the trip was pretty un-eventful. We rocked out to some old-school Ace of Base and love that MI gas stations sell an array of goodies; from circus peanuts to CB radios; fried shrimp to garden mulch. You'd better believe that I was the dude that got a 44 oz diet dew, some funyuns, and some mulch.

Its an hour later here. I'm pooped. Going...to...bed...
